What a way to start the new year! We’ve got the all-new BMW i4 M50 going head-to-head with one of the best performance EVs around - the Tesla Model 3 Performance!

So let’s take a look at their stats. Starting with the BMW, it’s powered by dual electric motors that put down 544hp and 795Nm of torque. It’s pretty heavy though, tipping the scales at 2,215kg.

Now the Tesla may also have dual electric motors, but it’s quite down on power compared to the i4, producing 490hp & 660Nm! It’s got one big advantage though… It’s over 350kg lighter than the BMW!

So, which do you think will snatch the win? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

Its races like these that make Carwow so good. Nobody really knows the outcome of a unique matchup like this and were all impressed nonetheless

When Matt rocks back and forth in his seat that gives it an extra 10 horsepower!

Is it just me or is Mat's F1 impersonation actually quite good? 😂

I love the fact that braking was done at 100mph (instead of 70!), but it's a bit of flaw since you need less than 0.1s difference in the reaction time for that type of distance. You should measure the braking distance electronically (not just white line on the ground). Do it 3 times at different Locations on the track to account for variations on the GPS as well. BMW has the sport brakes, but yeah 400kg is 5 people man! Lol thanks Matt!!!!

Hi Carwow! For electric cars, you should try a ‘regen brake test’ just for fun. Happy New Year!

I just love how they are not afraid to act childish and just being themselves. It's part of the recipe for Matt's success I believe. Happy new year Matt and Carwow! Thank you for all the great content!

To be honest the gap in the brake test was less than I thought it was going to be especially with the BMW having almost 400 kilos extra to bring to a stop.

I still remember that factory specs Model 3 performance completed 1/4 mile in 11.7s in previous carwow drag races. I am not sure that this 12s score was caused by the environment or the modification, so it is hard to say that i4 can beat tesla in drag race. Anyway, I think the weight difference can definitely show the gap between the two makers.

Great video, I think it captures well how the BMW has a nice top-end acceleration and regardless of 1/4 mile times in the video and appears that under the same test environment, the BMW will eventually pull ahead. So if a Tesla ran quicker a seperate video, that would tell me that under the same environment side-by-side, the i4 would still be the quicker of the two. Did anyone notice a quick shot of the BMW's gauge? It showed 56% SoC, and if you zoom in on a few shots, showed 134miles of range remaining. at "100%' SoC, looks like the range would have been 240miles, or higher considering they were basically accelerating a few times and this particular test wasn't to maximize range.

Honestly I never thought that the BMW was gonna beat that Tesla, but that was incredible.
